More children and youth who are 20 or younger and live in a Medicaid Rural Service Area (RSA) can now choose if they want to participate in the STAR managed care program or traditional Medicaid.
The Health and Human Services Commission recently changed eligibility requirements so that children who do not receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) but who are on a Department of Aging and Disabilities Services Medicaid 1915(c) waiver can choose between the programs. These individuals were previously required to enroll in STAR. Dual eligibles, however, who receive both Medicaid and Medicare cannot enroll in STAR. Individuals who now have the option to remain in STAR or choose traditional Medicaid are being contacted to determine what program they prefer.
